The Power Of One - You.

One life.

Save one child, and you have effectively changed the lives of every person that child comes into contact with in his or her lifetime.

And in a big or a small way, you have changed the lives of everyone connected with the people that child has touched.

Imagine that.

You.

Have changed their world.

You might not see it, you might not experience it personally, and for sure, you probably won’t get any medals for it.

But in your heart, when you look at yourself in the mirror, you will know.

Blessings.

Matt Owen - Magician with a heart of gold

Meet Matt Owen, the magician who doesn't hide his heart up his sleeve.

Matt Owen

Shirley and I spent an amazing Sunday afternoon filming Matt going through some of his routines, many of which he had designed specifically for our project.

Ridealist teamed up with this talented young conjurer to create a magic show to raise awareness of child abuse and trafficking.

We've all watched magic shows. They are mesmerizing. You simply can't stop watching.

We wanted to use this fascination to create something that will engage people, but will also tell a story, send a message, and raise awareness of a human crisis that goes on before our very eyes, but one which most of us don't see, or choose not to see.

And Matt didn't disappoint.

With three cameras, lights, boom mike, and a crowd of onlookers, the unflappable Matt was as patient as patient could be with our constant "Hmm, can you do that again, we just need to change the light/camera angle".

So with about two hours of footage on each camera, it will take a little time to download everything to our cranky old computers and storage devices and get editing.

But this is only the beginning of the story.

What we edit from Sunday’s shoot is only a “taster” of what we can achieve in the final production - with your input!

We'll be sharing it with our friends and partners who can then offer their input on where we need to make improvements, what elements stand out, what portions we should focus on and expand on.

And of course - ultimately - how we should frame the message through this medium.

As we've mentioned before. This isn't a Ridealist production. It's an "us" production.

We're delighted that Annie Lin of AnnieWhoLifeStyleTV has agreed to partner with Ridealist and help on the production and promotion of the video.

We've also been approached by other television and production companies such as VisionOnTV from the United Kingdom who may be interested in taking a pro-active role in the production.

We are also indebted to the following for their encouragement, suggestions, and kind offers of support:

Matt's non-profit interests cover a wide spectrum, and off-the-cuff he produced this, which we couldn't resist editing and putting online.

Once again, our thanks to Matt, and everyone who is supporting this project.

End Child Abuse & Trafficking - Video - UPDATE

We've all watched magic shows.

They are mesmerizing. You simply can't stop watching.

We want to use this fascination to create something that will tell a story, engage people, and raise awareness.

Ridealist has teamed up with a talented young conjurer to create a magic show to raise awareness of child abuse and human trafficking.

Our theme, in general, is along the lines of "this is happening right in front of your eyes, but why can't you see it?" A smart trafficker or calculating abuser can hide their activities often as easily as a conjurer can hide the card. You know it is there, you just can't (or choose not to) see it.

We want your input to expand this theme. What message would you like to see? How would you tell the story through this medium? What elements do you think are the most important to include in the script?

We invite you to join us on this venture, as a full participating partner. Your non-profit, your blog, your website will be included in the credits at the end of the video and any accompanying written material.

Send us your thoughts and suggestions, help us raise awareness, and through collaborative action, get the message across that child abuse and trafficking are unacceptable in our society.

This coming Sunday (8th April) we're going to spend a few hours with him and film some of his conjuring tricks, your input will greatly assist us in developing the routine at this early stage.

It will be a "rough" production, just to give you an idea of what he can do.

We'll then share with you to get further input to take the production to the next level.

We had an amazing afternoon shooting with Matt.. what an incredibly talented young man. I am sure you’ll be amazed at the opportunities he has created for raising awareness and promoting your (our) cause through his conjuring routine. Three cameras, more than two hours of filming, so please be patient with us, it will be a few days before we can put it online.

But as a “teaser” - Matt did a quick “skit” to highlight the problem of access to clean water, something most of us take for granted:

Watch Matt make water appear from out of thin air, and his friend remark quite seriously: Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could all do that!
