Hands of Action Children’s Art Auction

Hi, the Hands of Action Children’s Art Project Online Auction site has been active for about five days. Up to a few minutes ago it had received about 600 individual unique “hits” - that means at least 600 people took the trouble to click on the link posted on FB, twitter, LinkedIn to find out what this was all about.

It’s about these kids....

And her...

And these...

And these...

And him.

But so far there’ve been no bids for the charming drawings on offer. There’s no minimum bid, the whole process is as transparent as we can make it, and every dollar you bid (donate) for the artwork goes directly to benefit the children. 

Despite our best intentions, we have to admit we are new to this online auction, fundraising business. And if we are honest, we are a little disappointed with the response. So if we are doing something wrong, if there’s something we could do better, then please let us know. Your feedback could make a huge difference. 

These children worked hard to help create the project, to produce something unique that would look terrific in your home or office. Something of their life in rural Uganda. They are not begging, they are aware that they have to take an active part in their own empowerment to become net contributors to society, rather than permanent aid recipients.

Seeking Nonprofit Partners

As many of you know Ridealist is now a legally registered society (non-profit) here in Hong Kong. We aim to tell compelling stories of people and organisations making a positive difference in their communities.

Our target "demographic" are those grassroots non-profits and community groups that could genuinely benefit from a promotional or "awareness" video but simply do not have the means either financially or professionally to produce one.

Consequently, all of our work is done on an entirely pro-bono, volunteer basis.

We are also interested in producing full length documentary videos on social issues for broadcast.

However, certain restrictions placed on Ridealist make it difficult or virtually impossible for us to raise funds on our own behalf to maintain and expand this service. While we are able to provide volunteer services for local groups, because of contractual obligations, we are unable to directly participate in fund raising activities in Hong Kong. Therefore, the partner nonprofit needs to be based overseas such as - but not limited to - the United States or Great Britain.

We are looking for partnership opportunities with established NPOs who might consider fundraising on our behalf for specific video projects - especially those that require travel outside of Hong Kong.

These projects may be linked to the partnering NPO, or for a third-party grassroots community group.

Sai Kung to Siem Reap

In February 2012, Sue Beer and Alison Price will embark on a grueling 500km, 11-day cycle challenge through Cambodia to help stop sexual slavery in SE Asia.

According to the U.N., trafficking is a $32 billion annual industry that ensnares about 2.5 million people around the world at any given time.

Girls as young as three years old are sold for as little as US$50. Pimps are sewing them up again so they can be sold as “virgins”. This is Sue and Alison’s drive to do what they’re doing. They will cycle over undulating terrain from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap to help put an end to slavery, and rescue and heal its survivors for the Somaly Mam Foundation.
