You'd be surprised at the number of times we get asked that question.
Often someone has briefly visited our webpage - www.ridealist.com, our blog www.gelken.com, or picked up one of our tweets from @chrisgelken - and then out of the blue contact us with a short and very much to the point question; "We are X, a non-profit, what can you do for us?"
My usual response is a friendly suggestion that the person putting the question should go back to our website etc and spend a little time looking through some of the videos, pictures and stories.
Is there something there that appeals to you? Something you relate to? Would you like us to do something similar for your group?
Then come back to us and ask: "We are X, a non profit, and we have an idea. We want to achieve YYYY and wondered if you'd be in a position to help us do that?"
It is always useful if the non-profit has a general concept of where they want to go, what they want to achieve, and perhaps have some ideas of how they intend to go about it.
By itself, Ridealist cannot "turn around" a non-profit - that really has to come from you. Well, at the very least, a strong and close collaboration between the two of us! We both need a clear target, and an understanding of what both sides will contribute to ensuring the success of the process.
Based on our experience we certainly have some capacity to help various non-profits and grassroots groups achieve their goals.
Perhaps provide you with some tools such as video or photography. Perhaps we can help you with your written copy or make suggestions for your website.
Introduce you to television, newspaper or radio stations that might help spread the word of your work.
Or at the end of they day, maybe just offer you some words of encouragement, and suggest you subscribe to our twitter feed and Facebook or LinkedIn groups where we often post some inspiring work being done by other non-profits around the world.
Looking at what others were doing was how we got inspired to start Ridealist, maybe it will work for you too!
But certainly, throughout the whole process we are always here and more than happy to answer any and all of your questions.
But be prepared! We are probably going to ask you even more!
Shirley and I look forward to hearing from you!
Just begin by telling us what you need!
